What To Do?

Taking charge in your healing involves a common sense approach to your inner and outer environment. Of course, always consult with your health care professional but here are some suggestions for you to research and apply if you feel they are right for you. They have not been written by a medical practitioner and are offered as general knowledge only and not as medical advice.

Diet

In today's modern diet of processed foods, sodas, sugar and lack of water, our bodies are becoming more and more acidic, which limits the amount of oxygen that reaches the cells in our body. This creates a ripe environment for disease. Modifying your diet will help restore PH balance to your body.

- Eat Organic! It's pretty simple, the less exposure your body has to chemicals, the less stress there will be on your immune system, so whenever you can, choose an organic option. Yes, it's more expensive but do your best to stop comparing the cost of organic apples with non organic ones, but rather compare them to the costs involved with being ill.

- Choose unprocessed foods. During this time of healing, you want to help your body return to balance. Nature is the best example of keeping things in balance, so eat as much as possible from the vegetable aisle and if you need to cook them (raw is best!), do so with minimal heat to retain all the health benefits. Avoid the microwave. Avoid processed foods. Include beans, nuts and seeds.

- Sugars. So many products contain sugar of some form or another (which often is listed as fructose or corn syrup), which causes the body to produce too much insulin. Reduce intake as much as possible and limit to the occasional piece of fruit. Remember that complex carbohydrates are also a form of sugar, so reduce these as well. Read more here.

- Juicing is a great option, especially with a focus on juicing green vegetables. The greener the produce, the more alkalising for your body, the more oxygen to the cells. Here's a simple recipe:

The best juicer for greens is one that crushes (masticates) rather than cuts. There are some recommended in the video, or another recommended brand is Omega, which is very easy to clean.

- Fish. If you want to eat some fish, be mindful that many species contain high levels of mercury, which should be avoided. Read more here and double click the chart at the bottom of the page at that site.

- Meat. Red meat should be avoided (see link in the Articles section) and chicken/turkey should be organic where possible.

- Dairy. Most commercial dairy products come from cows that are often being fed anti-biotics, steroids and many other types of medication. Dairy also tends to cause a build up of mucus. You can review an indepth article here. If you must have dairy, then use organic items, or even better, consider goat's milk and goat producs as an option, in moderation.

- Water. It's important to keep your body hydrated as much as possible and filtered water should replace all other non-juice liquids, including alcohol and sodas. Add a small squeeze of an organic lemon to help the alkalization of your body. Drinking water in coffee or tea is not the same as drinking water by itself. Caffeine dehydrates the body - organic decaf/lowcaf green tea is a good alternative (visit the store). Click here for an article on hydration.

Cleaning/Body Care

Just as you want to keep chemicals out of your body, you want to keep them out of your home. All cleaning solvents, including those used in the laundry and kitchen, should be chemical free whenever possible. Visit the store, or Google "green cleaning products".

Likewise many body care products, including shampoos, moisturizes, makeup etc contain petroleum based ingredients, plus many other chemicals that, whilst applied only to your skin, still make their way into your body. As an example, there are now mainstream medications that are applied via patches to your skin, as it is known that the contents will reach the blood supply through the skin. Be mindful of this with whatever bodycare products you use and choose natural/organic options whenever you can.

Electronics

Cell phones. There is an abundance of information on the potential dangers of using cell phones, so use common sense when using yours. Never hold the phone to your ear but either use a speaker or wire headset. Keeping a bluetooth earpiece connected to your ear all day is not recommended, as it constantly checks in with your phone via radio waves.

You also want to keep it away from your body as much as possible. Does it make any sense to keep a cell phone in your jean pocket if you have cancer of the liver, prostate or bowel?

Wireless Modems. This is a difficult one to monitor, especially since many modems are in the apartment or building next door, so do what you can in your own place and use an ethernet cable as much as possible and switch off the broadcast option in your modem. Whilst modems originally started out emitting a relatively weak signal, as their range gets wider, the signals are more powerful.

Bottom Line

What you should be trying to achieve is to reduce the internal and external stressors on your immune system. Whilst the cause of most modern day illnesses remain unknown, that's still no reason not to apply common sense as to what things will minimize the stress on your body. No doubt it will mean that adjustments need to be made, but once you've taken that step, living this way will soon become second nature and it will ensure that your body has the best chance to return to a natural and balanced state of being.
